Women, work and gender gap: information to face it

05 MARCH 2020
Free entry

Event held in collaboration with CGIL Mantua. The gender gap comprises all those differences that influence the lives of human beings, based on their sexual and preferred gender. When we speak about gender gap, you can observe the existence of major penalizations for women compared to men. During the conference we want to analyze the factors that even in our present day limit the lives of women and outline the strategies to face them.
At the end of the event, there will be drinks offered by Levoni, at the Spazio Santa Lucia (Fondazione "Luigi ed Eleonora Gonzaga" - ONLUS) at 7:30pm, in via Frattini n. 24.

Women and photography publishing

06 MARCH 2020
Free entry

Photography publishing is a significant and fascinating universe, in constant transformation, that translates the society we live in into images: what image of themselves and of the world do women give in photography? Several studies have recently highlighted how (even) in the world of photography publishing female production is under-represented and under-valued.

Why the need for a collection of female photographers?

07 MARCH 2020
Free entry

Donata Pizzi, photographer and collector, together with Marzia Corraini, founder of Corraini Edizioni e Arte Contemporanea, show us how Italian women photographers have tackled the theme of work starting from the 1960s. The images are not just representing work as labour, but also deal with invisible occupations like motherhood. The photographs offer an evolving view that looks at gender myths with a critical mind and with irony, while also documenting the fights for women’s rights of the 1970s.

Photojournalism, the life of an image from the idea to the newsstand

07 MARCH 2020
Free entry

Betty Colombo is a Canon photo reporter that works for various publishing houses and Chiara Zennaro is a photo editor for Vanity Fair and Glamour. They'll speak about their work, through images projected and stories that will explain how ideas are born, how a photographer is chosen, how a job is built first in the press room then on location, the life of a photo reporter on the road. And again: adapting photos for paging, colors, the relationship with agencies, the flexible taste of the photo editor and their extraordinary visual culture.

From muse to creator. Female nudes in photography from its origins to today

07 MARCH 2020
Free entry

The evolution of nude in photography is inextricably tied to the representation of women in the history of art and the passive role of the muse serving the male gaze. For centuries women were confined to this role. Today, this is no longer: women are reappropriating the use of cameras for self-representation showing the female body in complex and faceted ways through a point of view unseen before: their own. The talk offers a journey starting from the first nudes pictures to contemporary fashion photography to discover the rise of the “female gaze”.

The work of storytelling

08 MARCH 2020
Free entry

Event held in collaboration with Lubiam. Erika Larsen tells us about the driving themes of her work and how this relates to storytelling. She gives us an overlook of her career and how being a woman affects it, and the roles she has taken on to create her work.

Women and Entrepreneurship

29 MARZO 2020
Free Entry

Family-led small and medium enterprises constitute the fabric of Italian industrial production, as well as speaking of the traditional model of family organisation. For this reason, Italy is the second European country where women employment is lowest, and with a very low birth rate. Can women-led enterprises have a transformative impact? The Research Centre for Horizontal Governance organizes a talk with Barbara Leda Kenny, Editor in chief of inGenere.it, and with Flavia Sgarbi, representative of the female associations in the province of Mantua.

Portrait photography is more than just the sum of technical skills, like lighting a subject and making sure he or she fits nicely into the frame. It’s more than finding the right clothes and props, and retouching the skin so that it's flawless. If everything is perfect, but nothing is happening and the person sitting in front of our camera isn’t engaging, the image just falls flat.

In this intense two day workshop we’ll talk about rules only to break them repeatedly. We will start with little exercises to test the waters and gain confidence. Then we’ll start from coming up with a concept and we’ll build a picture one layer at the time, adapting and adjusting to what happens in front of us. For the whole time we will work towards building a connection with our subject, learning how to guide them and direct them.

Number of participants: min 5, max 12.
Materials required: digital camera.
Duration: from 10:00 to 18:30 with lunch break from 13:00 to 15:00.
Fees: The workshop will cost €250. To secure your booking, we will require an advance payment of 150 €; the balance must be paid in cash on the day of the workshop. We will issue a receipt.

A unique encounter on the photographic language through our female body, as we set out to conquer ourselves and the world. The power of photographic expression fusing with the photographed subject. It’s an invitation for all women of any age to discover without vanity the adventures that the camera can enable. There will be a model during the sessions.

ORO ROSSO
presentation of the photography project and book by Stefania Prandi

Two investigations set 50 years apart, the first focusing on women workers during the Italian economic boom, the second revolving around the female tomato pickers of the mediterranean basin. Different lives, different times, still the same issues and situations keep arising, such as the search for a balance between work and family life, the right to education, the problem of harassment, society’s judgment, and the blackmail hiding behind the just quest for one’s independence.
